Drolma Lhakhang Monastery near Nyethang, Tibet was built in the 11th century. While thousands of other monasteries were being desecrated by the Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution, Drolma Lhakhang was left intact after a direct request from the government of Bangladesh. (The monastery was founded by a disciple of the Bengali scholar, Atisha.) I saw a large rat scurry into this temple ahead of me. I’m glad I didn’t let that dissuade me from going in. |
